Linda and Alex enjoy the delights of two adult daughters and a wider family group at all stages of life . Fitness walking, tennis, reading extensively, movies, enjoying fine wine with close friends along with growing and preparing the best in fresh food, together with planning and undertaking their own travels are all part of this time in their lives, shared with a moggie of 'no fixed abode' and until recently, a dissolute, opinionated dachshund. A 100 year old Auckland villa is home, where
renovation, together with a full sized garden, is a source of lots of enjoyment and a little frustration. About a year ago Tammy joined our family - she is the most delightful wire haired dachshund who has stolen our hearts and lightens every day.
Over the years both Alex and Linda worked in the horticultural export industry, travelling extensively throughout Asia, Europe and Australia, later becoming active in vegetable production. A New Zealand Tradenz export award was presented in recognition of 'an outstanding contribution to New Zealand trade'. The exotic sights and experiences of international business, gave rise to passions for photography and writing creating a firm future career base.
Today part of A.B. Donald Ltd, Images and Words showcases the professional skills of it's owners, Alex and Linda. A.B. Donald Ltd - a family company originally registered in New Zealand in 1896, operating as Pacific Island traders, importers and auctioneers; recommenced in 1978 by the great grandson of the founder, Alexander Donald. photo gallery
Linda – writer
Linda is a current member of The New Zealand Author's Association and has achieved The National Diploma in Journalism (Graduate) – Feature Writing paper. Writing has always been a source of sheer pleasure. Linda wrote simple poetry to be recited before school assembly as a small person, then speeches to win senior school competitions. A move to the country was the catalyst to article writing, with several lively pieces published in lifestyle magazines on the family's wide learning curve of rural experiences.
Through the years managerial roles in exporting (A.B. Donald Ltd), international airline sales promotion (UTA French Airlines), retail (Parnell boutique), Publishing customer service (NBR) and national communications (Export New Zealand) have required a wide range of writing ability – advertising and descriptive product copy, press releases, persuasive letters, book reviews, horticultural and food features along with business stories.
Linda also has a large portfolio of published lifestyle and property articles, plus those from the experiences of worldwide travel.
Today Linda is a fulltime freelance writer, delivering indepth researched features on specific topics, many based on interviews. Subject research combined with the ability to accurately bring this together intelligently, make Linda a standout in her field.
Many of Linda's articles are interview based, where her relaxed manner is a great asset, helping weave smooth assurance into her writing.
A specialty for Linda are her carefully crafted small pieces which may be a product description, property advertisement, brochure script – in fact any requirement for short, snappy writing. Contact Linda.

Alex – photographer

No easy job, photography - simply buying the best camera does not correct a lack of skill. If you weren't to happy with your point and shoot snaps of 10 years ago then the results from your $5000 DSLR kit will most likely disappoint also. The rules of light, framing and creativity have not changed. Get these right and your photographic talent and passion will flow. I have a great passion for my work and try to build my skill every day by professional shoots, personal work and photoshop techniques. I still like to use some transparency film for personal projects as the results are superlative if I have interpreted shoot conditions correctly. Professional work is always digital these days but I have found, being used to film where skill levels are critical, it becomes relatively easy to capture high quality digital images 'in camera', rather than be heavy handed in post shoot photoshop.
I offer capable, professional photography to my clients and have a large portfolio of successfully completed assignments, and I am a current, full member of
The Advertising and Illustrative Photographer's Association.
I worked for many years in the fresh produce export and vegetable seed industries, both of which required decisive action after careful observation and consideration of evolving situations. This readily translates to actual shoot conditions. Ability to accurately assess the shoot environment, advice to our clients about location, set preparation and shoot timing, combined with patience on the shoot with all participants, results in success.
Shooting with the latest professional Nikon 35mm digital and Contax film equipment, a full complement of specialty lenses and lighting, makes completing a job in challenging conditions when required, usually possible.
Residential and commercial property, hospitality, industrial, manufacturing, horticultural, agricultural, productshoots – wherever you need professional photography, we will help your company stand out. Annual reports, brochures, mail outs or websites, whether large or small, you can be confident your assignments will benefit from our careful attention to detail and are always completed on deadline. As every job is different, each is quoted with a detailed proposal and an agreed shooting schedule according to your requirements.
Innovative photography doesn't need to be expensive and we guarantee you will be delighted with the results. Contact Alex.
