As the journey unfolds, love, science, politics and human weakness all play a part. Starring Isabelle Adjani, Gerard Depardieu, Virginie Ledoyen, Yvan Attal, Gregori Derangere and Peter Coyote. 4/5 comment on this movie Le Chevre Private Investigator Gerard Depardieu and disaster prone Pierre Richard join forces to find a wealthy businessman’s daughter who goes missing on holiday in Mexico. Plenty to make you smile and chuckle, as the unlikely pair go about their task. 4/5 comment on this movie Le Comperes Following the success of Le Chevre, Gerard Depardieu and Pierre Richard, come together to find another missing person. This time it is to find Tristan, the teenage son of a friend neither of them have seen for many years, but who has told them independently, they are Tristan’s father. Francois (Richard) is intensively sensitive and Jean (Depardieu) is a macho journalist. The comic pair travel to Nice where they find more than they were looking for. 4/5 comment on this movie Monsieur Ibrahim Omar Sharif is the elderly Monsieur Ibrahim, a Turkish grocery store owner in a prostitute busy tucked away part of Paris, who takes lonely 15 year-old Jewish lad Momo (Pierre Boulanger) under his wing. The pair head off on an extensive driving adventure. There are a few gaps in the storyline, but their unlikely friendship makes a very watchable tale. 4/5 comment on this movie Joyeux Noel Set in the trenches of Northern France in 1914, the film is based on a true event. It is Christmas Eve when troops from France, Scotland and Germany engaging in horrendous battle just 100 metres from each other, agree on a ceasefire and join together to celebrate Christmas. The story gives an insight into the thoughts and backgrounds of the soldiers and includes a love story. 4/5 comment on this movie Les Fugitifs Another crazy exploit combining the great acting talents of Gerard Depardieu and Pierre Richard. Jean Lucas (Depardieu), a hardened thief just released from jail, is taken hostage in a mismanaged bank robbery being undertaken by Francois Pignon (Richard). Pignon needs money to fund treatment for his little daughter Jeanne, adorably played by Anais Bret. Plenty of chuckles. 4.5/5 comment on this movie Female Agents – Les Femmes de l’ombre Set in occupied France during WW11, this 2008 French made movie is based on true events. Five French women from diverse backgrounds, including the resistance, are recruited by the British Special Operations Executive to go to Normandy in May 1944 to rescue a captured British Army Geologist and kill a German SS Colonel. Led by brother and sister team, Louise (Sophie Marceau) and Pierre (Julian Boiselliers) Desfontaines, it also stars Julie Depardieu (daughter of Gerard Depardieu), Marie Gillian, Deborah Francois and Moritz Bleibtreu. Fast paced and emotional, the story features some chilling reminders of the fate of resistance workers captured by the SS. 4.5/5 comment on this movie Lorna’s Silence Bleak in scenery and plot, the mainly French speaking story revolves around Lorna (Arta Dobrosh) a young Albanian woman who marries drug addict (Jeremie Renier) as part of an immigration scam. Set in post-industrial Liege Belgium, Lorna’s is let down by boyfriend Sokol (Alban Ukaj) and at the mercy of scheming taxi driver Fabrio (Fabrizio Rognione). 4/5 comment on this movie Feux Rouges – Red Lights Don’t be fooled by the slower moving parts of this movie. Jean-Pierre Darroussin is insurance salesman, Antoine Dunan, married to corporate lawyer Helene, played by Carole Bouquet. The pair are heading for Bordeaux to collect their two sons from holiday camp. An angry Jean-Pierre chooses to drive after several drinks and continues to stop for double shots of whiskey at roadside cafes en route. At Tours, Carole leaves the car while Jean-Pierre is in a bar. The suspense, involving a fugitive begins. 4/5 comment on this movie Anything For Her Julien (Vincent Lindon) is relentless in his bid to rescue Lisa (Diane Kruger) his wife and mother of their small child Oscar, from jail. Lisa is convicted of murder, but though all the evidence is against her and an appeal is lost, Julien believes in his wife’s innocence and when she attempts suicide he knows he has to save her. A story of love, a little slow sometimes, but enough drama to keep your attention as it progresses. 3.5/5 comment on this movie Code Unknown A series of often abruptly ending segments about various events and the interaction of the people involved. Mainly taking place in Parisbut also in Maliand Romania. Two of the central characters are Anne an actress (Juliette Binoche) and her photographer boyfriend Georges (Theirry Nieuvic). There’s also Georges’ young brother and their dour farmer father, plus amongst others, an African teacher, a class of deaf children and a Romanian woman. It’s easy to see links between some of these, but others are more puzzling. 3.5/5 comment on this movie The Perfect Date - L’Amour c’est mieux a deux Chuckle all the way through this delicious romantic comedy as two male friends help each other find love. With very different approaches, Clovis Cornillac is gentle aid worker Michel alongside Manu Payet’s sex hungry Lawyer, Vincent. Gorgeous Angele is played by Virginie Efira and Nathalie by Shirley Bousquet 4.5/5 comment on this movie |
