Elevated viewing from an industrial theme gantry gives an interesting perspective over the entire area and there is a lift at the western end if you don't feel like the stairs. The Wynyard eating establishments are well presented but not yet well patronised. A dearth - we could find only one and it was excellent and busy - of smaller, more moderately priced cafe type spots, may leave visitors moving on to satisfy their apetites elsewhere.
I was very happy to see the antique drawbridge preserved. Many years ago this opened and closed to allow fishing boats to come and go from the western basin (Viaduct harbour now). My memories of this area from the 50s and 60s are of a rubbish infested, oily lagoon with great flocks of seagulls feasting on fish guts - what a spectacular difference today.

As you progress east, some of the super yacht berths are on your left and I was reminded of earlier sailing days by the crew of one large vessel vigorously swabbing the decks.

This whole area will be a great asset for Auckland and feels like we are finally growing up.
