"Photographs are everywhere - they have the power to shock, idealise or seduce - they create a sense of nostalgia and act as a memorial and they can be used as evidence or identification."On Photography - Susan Sontag 1971

Nicephore Niepce - the French inventor of the photographic process started his research in Chalon-sur-Saone in 1816 but unexpectedly died in 1833 before any of his inventions saw official recognition.
After his initial success, followed by many failures, partnership with Louis Daguerre in 1829 led to the development of the physautotype. After Niepce's death Daguerre's research continued on to produce the daguerreotype - a world famous photographic process. |
