Save your money, your time, your planet![]() Save - Your money, your time, your planet – inspired uses for common household items by Shannon Lush and Jennifer Fleming. Published by ABD books $24.99 A chunky small sized book devoted to reusing common household items. Following on the from the success of Spotless, Speedcleaning and How to be Comfy, Lush, a problem solver and Fleming from a media background, go room-by-room as well as outside, suggesting alternative uses for common household items. For example, in the food area a slice of potato can relieve itching caused by insect bites, and egg shells can be crushed and scattered in the garden around the base of citrus, azaleas, camellias and roses, because they are alkaline. Similarly fireplace ash makes a good garden fertilser, while keeping snails and slugs away. The diverse advice covers 287 pages, offering information from how to rectify cooking mishaps like adding too much salt or too much sugar, to recipes for laundry detergent and how to turn old silk ties into a skirt. Each item lists ‘save’ items, gives ‘did you know’ information about it and a tip. There’s also an index and few pages for notes. Usefulness 9/10 © 2008 L Donald all rights reserved |
