“How do we balance the need we have to earn the money required to feed, clothe and buy books for ourselves and our dependents, against the desire we have to enjoy life’s other pleasures?”, asks author James O’Loghlin.

The lawyer and broadcaster, who defines work/life balance as “a measure of how much time you work and how much you have left for other things in your life”, says, by the end of this book, you should be closer to the answer.

Described as a step-by-step guide to make a life for ourselves we actually enjoy, it comes in two parts; - ‘Why you should balance your life?’ and ‘How to balance your life’.

O’Loghlin explains, many are dissatisfied but few do anything about it. Amongst the reasons given for why you don’t, is procrastination. “We all fear change and its easy to accept he status quo”.

Many reasons are also given for why you should, from being able to enjoy your children while they grow, to not having regrets later on and having better mental and physical health.

Suggestions on how to manage this range from getting motivated, to increasing productivity by ignoring office politics, focusing and getting down to work first thing.

Another option is to look at part time work and tips are included for dealing with common employer objections along with ways to respond to them.

There’s plenty of good advice for the employer, the employed and the self-employed.
